Apple unveiled the latest generation of its iPhones on Tuesday night. Here is an overview of the most important features of the Apple iPhone 13:
- Faster chip
Unsurprisingly, Apple also gives the latest generation a new chipset. The Apple A15 is said to have received a significant performance boost compared to the predecessor. The performance boost is supposed to be particularly noticeable in artificial intelligence tasks. Apple once again compares itself with the competition and states that the new chip is “50 percent faster than the competition” – whatever that means exactly. - More storage space
There is also good news for all those who permanently have to struggle with a lack of storage space. Even the cheapest model now comes with 128GB of storage, which should be enough for just about every average user.
The Pro and Pro Max models will also come with 1 terabyte of storage for the first time.
3. 3rd display
At first glance, the displays of the new phones have not changed much; they are just as large as those of the predecessors. Specifically, this means 6.1 inches for the iPhone 13 and 13 Pro, 5.4 inches for the Mini and 6.7 inches for the Pro Max.
However, the innovation is in the details: The “notch”, i.e. the part of the display that accommodates the front camera, has become about 20 percent smaller. That means you have a bit more of the real display. In addition, the OLED screens of the Pro models are equipped with an adaptive refresh rate of 120 Hz for the first time. This should make animations and navigating through menus look particularly smooth.
The brightness has also been increased – this is particularly noticeable in the Pro models, where up to 1000 nits are achieved. The regular iPhone 13 and the Mini still have 800 nits.
- Cameras
Apple has placed a special emphasis on the camera. The wide-angle camera has been completely redesigned and the sensor improved. This is supposed to capture 15 percent more light. In addition, the physical image stabilizer is installed. The whole thing sits in an aluminum casing made of recycled material. The new wide-angle camera and the video function are supposed to be particularly impressive. The iPhone 13 should be able to automatically recognize which part of a video should be in focus.
The Pro models also come with a particularly nice feature in the wide-angle cameras, namely a macro function. This allows close-up photos to be taken, which can be impressive in many situations due to the large focal length.
Especially the Pro models are supposed to benefit from a cinema mode. Apple has provided some clips where iPhones are used in professional film productions. With Photografic Styles, you should be able to edit your photos according to your own taste.
- Battery
Good news for all those who constantly run out of juice. The iPhones are said to have a longer battery life than their predecessors. The regular iPhone 13 will run 2.5 hours longer, while the Mini should still run 1.5 hours longer than the iPhone 12.
The iPhone 13 Pro should also last 1.5 hours longer than its predecessor, and the Pro Max should last 2.5 hours longer than its predecessor. That makes it the iPhone with the longest battery life to date, according to Apple.
Prices and availability
The rumor that iPhones will become more expensive due to the chip crisis has only partially come true. The regular models come at the same starting price as its predecessors. However, you have to keep in mind that the entry-level storage capacity has increased from 64 to 128GB.
iPhone 13: 899 euro
iPhone 13 Mini: 799 euro
The Pro models have become more expensive compared to their predecessors:
iPhone 13 Pro: 1,149 euros
iPhone 13 Pro Max: 1.249 Euro
